Welcome
to the 3rd
Cardiovascular Clinical
Trials in
Emerging Countries
(Co-located with the 4th
Oncology
Clinical
Trials in
Emerging Regions)
Cardiovascular diseases continue to be among the major
causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide.
Whilst emerging regions represent the potential
opportunity to reduce costs and access large specific
groups of treatment naïve patients there still
remains patient populations especially burdened with
cardiovascular diseases that are not appropriately
represented in clinical trials. Indeed an increasing
awareness of the risk profiles in minority populations
is an essential step toward improving the identification
of high-risk patients who should be candidates for
treatment.
Although small, specialized cardiovascular trials have
added to our knowledge of treatment for CVD, large,
global trials and meta-analyses have greatly contributed
to the reliable evaluation of treatments and offer more
opportunity to reach across gender and cultural groups
for the younger and middle aged population, as well as
populations with different genetic composition
The 3rd CVCTEC will review current operational,
regulatory and logistical issues confronting sponsors
and CROs conducting cardiovascular clinical trials in
emerging regions and assess that the role that emerging
regions will play in the future.
Topics under discussion will include-
- Embracing strategies to reduce
per-patient costs, without compromising the integrity
of the study
- Challenges of recruiting
investigators for cardiovascular clinical trials in
emerging regions
- India and China have emerged.
What are the real emerging regions?
- Designing and executing large
multi centre cardiovascular clinical trials in
Emerging countries
- Efficient method for screening
and recruiting patients in cardiovascular clinical
trials to maximize enrolment
- What are the challenges of
streamlining data-collection in cardiovascular
clinical trials – working in emerging markets?
- Working with local regulatory
authorities to design the clinical protocol
- Do ethics committees really have
the right structure and independence to make decisions
concerning complex trials in emerging regions?
- Special logistical considerations
in Emerging Regions
- Streamlining patient recruitment
methods to reduce costs
